Magnetic Barkhausen Noise (MBN) is a magnetic technique for characterizing ferromagnetic materials nondestructively. It has been used to evaluate residual stress, case hardening, and assess the magnetic properties of electrical steels, to mention but a few applications. The Nexum Research system is portable and provides flux control, which is essential for reproducibility and allows for tetrapole probes, which provide rapid rotational field scanning. In addition to point measurements, the software provides flux scans, rotational scans, translational scans and voltage scans. In addition, the system allows for measurement of minor hysteretic loops.
